Milwaukee Startup Ecosystem: A Comprehensive Overview

When you think of startups in America, many people envision popular tech cities like San Francisco and Seattle. Though these spots are famous for their ingenuity, creation, and development, other cities are blossoming simultaneously as innovational epicenters.

The Midwest is an often overlooked area in the country for startups. Even when Chicago is the third biggest city in the nation, its adjacent towns and states are often relegated to an inferior status that doesn’t live up to reality. Just 90 miles north of Chicago lies Wisconsin’s largest city, Milwaukee. With barely over 500,000 residents, Milwaukee’s population and inland location leave it vulnerable to misguided perceptions.

Whether you know it or not, Milwaukee’s startup ecosystem and culture are growing tremendously, providing new jobs and opportunities for its locals. Here is a comprehensive look at the history and current status of this Midwestern city’s growing startup economy and what an entrepreneur can gain from relocating there.

What is a Startup?

Generally speaking, startups are associated with entrepreneurial endeavors that focus on technology. The emerging company aims to conceptualize, prototype, and manufacture a product that has never been introduced to the market before. A startup often relies on external funds to finance the upcoming product, which is why developing companies are stationed in major cities with ample monetary opportunities.

Because startups are usually linked to technology-based innovation, it’s common to see new companies emerge in the Bay Area or the Pacific Northwest. But Milwaukee has become a true tour-de-force of creation in the last several years, earning the number one spot for early-stage investment growth among U.S. cities in 2023. The city’s sudden appearance in the startup community has made it an exceptional area for development and entrepreneurship.

Milwaukee Overview

So, now that Milwaukee is making waves in the startup community, what is it like to initiate a company there? For many who doubt its significance, this Midwestern city is home to many nationally ranked startup accelerators, which are crucial to getting entrepreneurs’ products off the ground.

One of Milwaukee’s most successful accelerators is gener8tr, which helps connect business owners with investors nationwide. The company currently has 85 accelerators in place across 41 communities in the city, providing excellent funds and resources to each established venture. Gener8tr procured $1.3 billion from investors over the last year, which is a definite reason why Milwaukee experienced recent startup growth.

Academia and startup culture go hand in hand for Milwaukee’s young adults. Many of the city’s public and private universities are incorporating entrepreneurship into their studious ecosystem, allowing for innovation and growth at a crucial age. The Lubar Entrepreneurship Center at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is a critical factor in this initiative. The center provides resources and workshops to young entrepreneurs and a space for like-minded thinkers to brainstorm and collaborate. Business-focused courses can be taken at the center, ensuring college students have first-hand experience before joining the cutthroat startup ecosystem.

A few private institutions in and around the city similarly serve their students with business-oriented resources. Marquette University’s Kohler Center for Entrepreneurship gives youth innovators the tools and programming to refine their skills. The center’s programming is available for students, staff, and faculty, assisting in entrepreneurial growth regardless of age or occupation. Marquette already has a plethora of student-led startups, including Complete Sharing, a clothing company that manufactures tank top switch light-weight prosthetics for those who’ve survived breast cancer.

Key Industries

Knowing what this midwestern metropolis can provide is imperative when establishing a new startup in Milwaukee. As an up-and-coming tech city, its creative population and sufficient infrastructure give young and experienced entrepreneurs an excellent platform for sustained growth. As an evolving city for opportunity, Milwaukee holds plenty of influential and successful corporations, benefiting commercial industries citywide.

Milwaukee is home to 18 powerful Fortune 1000 companies, making the mid-size city their headquarters. Engineering companies like Modine and department store chains like Kohl’s have made the metropolis their main post. Harley Davidson, the renowned motorcycle company, also resides in this Wisconsin city. With such a diverse spread of corporations and businesses, innovators of various expertise and passions have found resources and funding in Milwaukee.

Though the city has accumulated startups of all missions, Milwaukee is associated with a few key industries. Since the Midwest is known for its industrialized history, Wisconsin is no different with its mechanical manufacturing economy. The city has been a crucial headquarters for producing manufacturing equipment used nationwide. Companies like Rockwell Automation are now innovating smart machines, low-emission engines, and sophisticated mechanics to revolutionize construction. Milwaukee is also home to smaller mechanics companies, creating a steady supply chain throughout the USA.

Milwaukee is a foundational place for groundbreaking water technology. The city has the country’s largest concentration of water-related companies due to its proximity to the Great Lakes, the Milwaukee River, and the Mississippi River watershed. Water technology and its adjacent companies have a market value of $10.5 billion, making Milwaukee the quintessential city for hydraulic innovation. Industry giants like Kohler, Badger Meter, and A.O. Smith have headquarters in Milwaukee, which has galvanized smaller water-based companies and startups to locate in the area.

The Milwaukee Region is home to top-tier institutions for water-related academic research, like the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s School of Freshwater Sciences and the Water Quality Center at Marquette University. Both academies link companies with specialized scientists and quality research for better innovation. The former’s freshwater department is the first of its kind in the country, using the Great Lakes as a focal point for addressing complicated climate change issues.

Resources and Support Networks

So, what can you gain if you move to or initiate a startup in Milwaukee? Many resources are accessible within the city’s borders, including the Milwaukee 7 Partnership for Economic Development.

This partnership is a branch of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce, which aids in growing small businesses in seven counties of southeastern Wisconsin. M7 will connect your startup to prominent company leaders in your field while providing workforce assets and expansion resources. Partnering with M7 is a sure way to gain a support network for new transplants who want to grow a business in Milwaukee from the ground up.

Funding opportunities are tremendously accessible in this midwest state. Wisconsin has unique laws and policies to help advance small businesses and startups. The state has given over $2 billion in tax relief for companies with the Manufacturing and Agriculture Tax Credit. This tax relief incentive allows up-and-coming Milwaukee businesses to compete with other companies on a global scale.

State grants are a phenomenal resource for entrepreneurs. Wisconsin has a Transportation Economic Assistance Program for aviation and transportation companies, which guides local businesses in expansion and development. There’s also a green energy grant for startups focusing on renewable energy or energy efficiency.

Here’s where the coffee shop comes into play: cafés have become integral to people’s work-from-home lifestyle since they provide a necessary change of scenery and infinite caffeine for maximum productivity.

In a massive city like Chicago, there are hundreds of neighborhoods to live in, which makes finding the right coffee shop slightly more complicated. If you’re struggling to find a spot with free WiFi and a soothing ambiance, here is a list of quality shops for a stress-free workday.

Wicker Park

Ipsento 606

Right off Milwaukee Avenue lies a sophisticated and quaint coffee spot. Its bright interior and sleek bar are perfect for any espresso aficionado, but it’s the ample counter space and tables that make it an effective workspace.

Ipsento’s menu always has something fun, flavorful, and seasonal for you to try. The cardamom rose, and lavender honey is perfect for getting in the autumn mood. Ipsento also has all the classic espresso drinks like red eyes, cappuccinos, cortados, and americanos.

This quaint coffee shop lining Wicker Park’s iconic 606 is exceptional for completing a day’s worth of work. The free Wi-Fi is flowing at Ipsento just as much as the coffee.

Wormhole

If you’re around the six corners in Wicker Park, you’re likely shopping for new clothes or checking out many record shops. But this neighborhood is also a great place to get some needed work done. Stepping into the Wormhole, you’ll find a quirky café equipped with excellent coffee beverages, free internet, and 80s-themed wall art.

The Wormhole is most known for its wacky, anachronistic furnishings, like an actual DeLorean that’s stationed in the back of the shop. The walls of the café are filled with vintage movie posters and Gremlins memorabilia, making every guest feel like they just entered a time machine. Though Wormhole gets an A+ for its aesthetic, it also becomes a studious environment during the day, with many patrons working quietly at the bar or the communal tables. Before you embark on your Wicker Park shopping spree, try this café out for a focused environment and delicious beverages.

Lakeview

Intelligentsia

There are too many coffee shops in Boystown to count, but one of the most popular is the Intelligentsia café on Broadway Avenue. Its long marble bar and ample seating will impress any coffee enthusiast.

The baristas at Intelligentsia undergo rigorous training before presenting you with cappuccinos and lattes, so each beverage is made with absolute care. There are both communal tables and bar seats for an optimal work experience, and the vibe inside is always calming and focused. If you need a day to complete some online tasks, then pop over to Intelligentsia.

Two Hearted Queen

This coffee shop, opened in 2015 by longtime Chicago residents, serves locally roasted coffee and delectable espresso drinks. Located on Roscoe Street and Racine, Two Hearted Queen has quickly become a favorite for Boystown inhabitants.

The café is not only an excellent away-from-home office but has tons of delectable menu options for sipping and snacking. Two Hearted Queen has specialty, queen-themed lattes for sweet lovers, as well as breakfast and veggie bagel sandwiches for extra focus and energy. There’s abundant space for setting up laptops and other electronics, exemplary for all-day projects or catching up on emails.

Logan Square

Armitage Avenue is one of the busiest epicenters on the north side. The street spans from Lake Michigan to the western suburbs, but right in the middle is where you’ll find Damn Fine Coffee Bar.

Though the shop isn’t very roomy, it’s incredibly inviting with its stylish decor and friendly staff. There’s also a wonderful seating area on the sidewalk, ideal for soaking in the brisk fall weather.

Damn Fine is a sizable menu with plenty of caffeinated drinks and tea options for those avoiding strong coffee. If you need some anti-anxiety help while you work, you can, fortunately, add CBD honey to any purchasable beverage.

Sip of Hope

Sip of Hope is a one-of-a-kind coffee shop in the heart of Logan Square. 100% of the revenue goes to Hope for the Day, a non-profit suicide-prevention organization. As well as an excellent workspace, this Logan Square café is dedicated to providing resources and education to those struggling with their mental health.

Sip of Hope has the usual, delicious caffeinated drinks one would expect from a coffee shop. The café also serves up non-traditional drinks like their “nectar of the gods” or spicy mocha. Most beverages use Chicago’s renowned Dark Matter coffee beans, ensuring that each brewed batch is flavorful and highly caffeinated.

Sip of Hope has extensive bar seating for guests ready to get into work mode. There’s also a handful of small tables for those wishing to bring a friend or have a chat. This café is tremendous for long, task-filled days if you need a new Logan Square spot for productivity.

There are too many coffee shops to count in this city with free WiFi that didn’t make this abbreviated list. But if you’re any in these northside neighborhoods, check out these mentioned cafés for strong, caffeinated beverages and a peaceful ambiance. Getting out of the house to co-work or complete tasks is imperative these days, so stop by a café with free internet for a productive weekday.

How to Create The Best Internet Speed For Gaming

For many of us, purchasing internet packages for our homes doesn’t require much thought: we buy the modem, set up the connection, and the rest is history. But for some, purchasing internet with the right speed and reliability is undeniably paramount.

Live streamers and gamers have specific requirements for their perfect internet subscription. Here are some tips and recommendations for gamers on how to get the ideal package.

Speed and Bandwidth

If you’re using your internet for gaming, a higher speed efficiency is required for your connection to run smoothly. Anything between 15 to 20 Mpbs will work whether you’re using a computer or a gaming system to play.

Purchasing an internet package with extra bandwidth is imperative if other members are in your household and rely on the same network. Multiple people streaming movies, texting, or downloading large files strain the WiFi’s reliability.

Strategically Place Your Router

Now that you’ve picked the perfect WiFi for your gaming routine, it’s time to figure out the ideal placement for the modem. Things in your home, like big furniture, TV sets, and walls, will exacerbate latency problems, so ensure the modem is in an advantageous place. If your gaming system and television are in the living room, plug your modem nearby for optimum WiFi consistency.

Another essential trick for the best internet access is elevating your modem. If the box is on the ground, your furniture could easily obstruct WiFi signals. Place the modem on a table or window ledge to give your WiFi the best possible route to your gaming system.

Certain appliances could also provide obstacles to optimum WiFi usage. Microwaves and wireless speakers omit their own signals that can obfuscate your modem’s output. If you’re experiencing lag time from your router, try moving your modem to a room without those appliances.

Exit Other Websites

If your primary gaming system is the computer, there are plenty of tricks to prevent internet lagging. For those who keep many tabs on their internet browser, now’s the time to cancel out the sites that utilize the most data. Keeping websites like Netflix and Hulu up will decrease efficiency on your computer since streaming services need plenty of data and a solid connection to run.

Disconnect Unused Devices

Just like exiting out websites, disconnecting appliances will help free up data and space for your internet to run better. When multiple computers, phones, and speakers are all connected to the same WiFi, it’s a no-brainer that your modem’s signal will become weaker. To prevent lag time while gaming, unplug speakers and exit your laptop’s WiFi to increase your network’s reliability and latency.

Use the Ethernet Cable

If you’re not living alone, asking everyone to disconnect from the WiFi simultaneously could be difficult. Especially when your family members or roommates must use the internet, your gaming time might not be the most crucial thing for the household. This particular situation can be remedied by using an ethernet cable to connect to your gaming console.

Like your modem, ethernet cables carry your WiFi’s broadband system through a room. Instead of releasing a signal into the general vicinity, an ethernet cable can transfer the internet from one device to another. If your WiFi is constantly being weighed down by other housemates utilizing the same network, you can purchase an ethernet cable to improve your gaming connection.

Troubleshooting your WiFi connection doesn’t have to be a strenuous activity. All of these tips and tricks can significantly improve internet speeds for your gaming pleasure.

5 Tips for Successful Temporary Event WiFi

In today’s world, almost everyone expects free WiFi. Whether you’re in your local cafe or catching a flight at your city’s airport, it’s second nature to join the complimentary internet in these public spaces.

In the 21st century, hosting an event often includes providing WiFi to the guests. However, supplying free internet may be complex and cumbersome, depending on the crowd size, the space, and the event’s length. Here are some of the best tips to keep your WiFi running smoothly during your function.

Assess Your Internet Needs

Though your guests may expect internet access, having free WiFi could be more imperative to your event’s staff, speakers, and performers. It’s essential to consider who will be using the internet and how vital internet connection is to your team to keep the function running.

If staff at your event need to communicate with each other consistently or your event includes guest or VIP sections, then WiFi is understandably critical to provide. Those paying extra for tickets will likely expect specific amenities, which often include reliable access to the internet.

In the digital age, most electronic payment processing systems need WiFi. If you have live performers selling merch or your event offers drinks and cocktails to guests, then steady internet will be required to sustain your event’s cohesion.

Assessing what your staff, patrons, and VIPs require for a successful night will help guide you to providing the best internet access possible.

Internet Bandwidth Options

Now that you’ve determined your event’s needs, you can decide what WiFi bandwidth to purchase for your function. You can choose between multiple bandwidths for a steady internet connection, depending on your event’s size and whether it’s outdoors or indoors.

Cellular bandwidth is one of the most popular ones to purchase due to its cost-effectiveness and quick installation. Unfortunately, this connection type would get bogged down easily by too many users. Events with countless attendees needing uninterrupted connection should opt for dedicated bandwidth, known for its reliability in high-volume situations.

User Density

After selecting your bandwidth, you’ll have to assess your event’s density spots. If you have an event with a stage or a bar, guests will likely gather in large amounts in these areas. Crowded places may cause your WiFi to lag, angering patrons and hindering your event’s smoothness.

To counteract user issues, make sure your internet setup supports high-density WiFi. Check all your installed access points at your event to ensure they can host a handful of devices simultaneously. Purchasing internet that can sustain congested usage will keep your WiFi running uninterrupted.

Apply Multiple WiFi Networks

Providing one single network for your event might do more harm than good. One of the most concerning issues with single-network WiFi is security breaches.

It’s a possibility that a patron of your event has malware on their phone, which could infect other devices by floating through the connected internet. Multiple networks on the same WiFi can prevent this occurrence, as well as provide different bandwidths for attendees, staff, and other important guests.

If your event has plenty of staff needing internet access, you can create a closed network with a specific bandwidth for them to use. Putting all your event planners and notable attendees on one line can decrease security breaches, internet shortages, and other WiFi-related problems.

Check the Internet Before the Event

Though setting up an event may be a rushed endeavor, it’s critical to set up your WiFi a few days ahead of schedule. Installing the internet earlier will allow you to ensure its reliability.

Take your stuff around to each access point and test the WiFi’s connection and speed. Especially if you have gathering spots, get multiple people to stand together and join the same network to check the internet’s lag time.

Looking into your function’s requirements and ensuring you have plenty of WiFi installation time are all helpful places to start when providing quality internet. With these five tips, you’ll be able to run an event with zero WiFi disruptions.

What is Midjourney AI Art Generator and How to Use it

Artificial intelligence has had a noticeable rise over the past decade. Particularly this year, AI has been responsible for unfathomable automation and creation, from product recommendations to crafting original movie scripts. One particular type of generator, known as an art generator, has gained massive attention alongside its text-based counterparts.

An AI art generator takes words you’ve inputted and creates an original image from those descriptions. The algorithm instantly utilizes images attached to those keywords to produce a brand-new portrait in seconds. Though there are a few art generators at your disposal, Midjourney is one of the most successful. Here is how Midjourney works and how to use the platform efficiently.

What is Midjourney?

Simply put, Midjourney is a template for AI art. The software easily converts written text into never-before-seen imagery, similar to image generators like DALL-E or Stable Diffusion. The pictures Midjourney crafts are high quality and mind-blowing, from outputting completely new alien worlds or even celebrity portraits. Unfortunately, Midjourney only allows users a couple of free trials before needing payment for a subscription.

To use the generator, you must download Discord, an online chat for intentional communities. After downloading the application and joining the Midjourney group, you can input your prompts to create original AI imagery.

After inserting your keywords, Midjourney will release four different images using the same prompts. You’ll be able to pick the resolution and which image most closely aligns with your vision. After selecting your image, Midjourney will generate four new images that similarly resemble the first one, vying for the best composite that fits your vision. You can also click a “redo” button if the AI generator creates images that don’t align with your fantasy. After ten images, you’ll have to pay for continual use of Midjourney, but ten free photos are enough to test out the software’s power and ingenuity.

How Does it Work?

Though Midjourney mainly operates on closed-source technologies, the public knows a few certain facts regarding this generator’s operation.

Midjourney utilizes two large models that help craft these virtual images.  These machine learning technologies are called large language and diffusion models. Language models are imperative for AI generators like Midjourney to interpret substantial text prompts. The keywords are then transformed into vectors, which are numerical sequences that align with each given word. After that, the vector is sent to the next model, known as diffusion.

A diffusion model is a recent technology that uses vectors to create visual “noise.” In AI, noise is a pattern of dots or pixels that relate to the inputted numeric sequence. Diffusion technology can reverse these noise patterns, which ultimately creates a new, original picture in a process called “denoising.” In this deceptively simplistic two-step process, Midjourney can transform random dots into individual designs in just a few seconds.

How Do You Use Midjourney Effectively?

There are a few simple ways to interact with Midjourney to get effective results. The easiest is using Discord and directly interacting with the AI generator bot. In Discord, you should insert your text prompt in the most straightforward, descriptive order to get your preferred image.

For instance, a user can write a sentence like “a portrait of a man with a cowboy hat” and submit that to the Midjourney bot. You also can type less formally, writing individual words with commas separating them, like “man standing, cowboy hat.” Since you’re working with AI, the more details you give the generator, the better your image will turn out.

Adding the type of picture you’re looking for also aids in effective art creation. A text prompt that tells the generator that the render needs to be a drawing, a portrait, a painting, etc., can help narrow down the preferred aesthetic of the new image.

AI generators are easily accessible around the internet and can create almost anything from scripts and essays to high-resolution fantasy worlds. If you’re interested in crafting original pieces through the power of online intelligence, look into Midjourney for astonishing renders and creations.

Navigating the World of Internet Speeds: What Do Mbps and Gbps Mean?

After moving into a new apartment or house, setting up the internet is often a primary task. For many of us, the most challenging choice about buying internet subscriptions is figuring out what telecommunications provider you’ll order from.  Placing the modem and getting the internet to work are the average final steps before never thinking about your WiFi again. But, like most technologies, your internet has many other factors that combine to make it more accessible, quick, and appropriate for your ideal usage.

For most, internet speed vernacular isn’t common knowledge. If your file downloading is slow or random connection interruptions steadily occur, knowing about internet speed might help fix a problem or two. Mbps and Gbps are two measurements that homeowners and renters should know to ensure that their internet quality correlates with their individual needs.

What is Mbps?

Simply put, Mbps stands for megabits per second. Though many might be familiar with megabytes, a unit of measurement for digital storage, megabits are how one measures download speed. The higher the amount of Mbps an internet package provides, the faster the WiFi connection.

So, how many Mbps do you need for adequate speed? If you use the internet for email checking, social media perusing, and other recreational activities, high Mbps won’t matter much to you. If you use the internet for streaming or downloading large movie files, a more significant Mbps number would be much more helpful.

The equation gets more complicated once multiple family members, friends, and roommates utilize the same WiFi. When numerous people are connected to the same WiFi channel, the speed of the internet gets weighed down tremendously. If your modem isn’t restricted to one person, getting a WiFi package with a higher Mbps is absolutely imperative.

When do you need Gbps?

Like Mbps, Gbps is a unit of measurement for internet speed. Where Mbps measures one million bits per second, the Gbps stands for one billion bits, or one gigabit, per second. This type of internet power is astronomical, so determining when a home needs this power is critical before purchasing.

So, how much power does one Mbps or one Gbps hold? One megabit can download one small photo per second. A gigabit could download 1,000 images within that same time frame. Purchasing an internet package from an internet service provider (ISP) with Gbps power would be sensible if the buyer continuously downloaded and streamed massive files.

Even with a five-family home, all users would need to be streaming their favorite TV shows on 4K simultaneously to warrant having GPBS internet speeds. Purchasing this type of internet speed would be helpful for those needing to download large files quickly, such as gamers or streamers. Both types of users often utilize multiple channels, apps, and software simultaneously, which may justify a Gpbs capacity.  If there aren’t 20 people streaming movies from the same WiFi channel, purchasing an internet package with lower bandwidth will suffice.

Though staying up-to-date on new internet vocabulary isn’t always essential, knowing the difference between Mbps and Gbps is necessary for any WiFi user. If your profession requires active streaming from multiple sites or consistently downloading immense files, opting for a higher-speed package would benefit you profoundly. If you use the internet for work and/or recreational purposes, you will likely only need speeds in the Mbps range.

Greetings, fellow gamers! Are you ready to transcend the ordinary and embrace gaming greatness? Welcome to your definitive guide to obliterating the dreaded lag and ascending to the realm of uninterrupted victory. Prepare your arsenal, strategize, and march into gaming equipped to conquer every digital battlefield.

Introduction

Gaming isn’t just a pastime—it’s an odyssey of triumph and conquest. Yet in this adventure, there’s a persistent nemesis we must overcome: lag. Imagine a world where your every command is executed instantly, where your skill alone determines your success. This September, we rally together to banish lag and unlock the true potential of lag-free gaming.

  1. The Lag Conundrum: Unveiling the Science Behind Lag

Lag—a term feared by gamers worldwide. It’s the delay between your input and the corresponding action on screen. But why does lag haunt us? The culprits can range from network latency, where data travels between your device and the game’s server, to hardware bottlenecks, where your system struggles to keep up with the game’s demands. Understanding the science behind lag empowers us to defeat it.

  1. Power Up Your Connection

A stalwart connection is your shield in the digital arena. Wired Ethernet is your trusty steed, offering unparalleled stability and speed, unburdened by wireless interference. On the wireless front, turbocharge your Wi-Fi by investing in a high-quality router, optimizing channel settings, and employing signal boosters where needed. With a robust 1 Gbps (gigabit per second) connection, you can transfer a 10 GB game in as little as 80 seconds—now that’s lag-free gaming at its finest!

  1. Choosing the Right Server: The Art of Best Practices

Embarking on multiplayer quests demands savvy server selection. When it comes to changing servers, most games allow you to do so from the in-game menu. Typically, you can filter servers based on location and ping. Opt for servers geographically closer to your location; they reduce the time data takes to travel, thus minimizing latency. It’s a strategic maneuver that sets the stage for triumphant victories.

  1. Hardware Matters: Recommendations for Gaming Prowess

Your gaming setup is more than a collection of devices—it’s your arsenal for success. The right graphics card, RAM, and processor are your allies. For those seeking guidance, online resources such as Tom’s Hardware, PC Gamer, and TechPowerUp offer insights into what suits your gaming style. Trust your instincts, for your hardware is the cornerstone of your anti-lag campaign.

  1. Keep It Clean, Keep It Cool: Battling Overheating

As battles rage on your screen, so does the heat within your rig. Over time, dust accumulates and airflow diminishes, leading to overheating and lag spikes. Regular cleaning and proper ventilation are your weapons against this silent adversary. Dust tends to accumulate in areas like your CPU and GPU fans, heat sinks, and vents. To clean your rig, power it off, open the case, and use compressed air to blow away dust. Gently wipe down surfaces with a microfiber cloth. Keep vents unblocked and maintain a dust-free environment for optimal cooling.

  1. Streamline Background Apps

Focus is your ally. Eliminate distracting background apps and processes before your gaming session. By decluttering your digital realm, you grant your rig the freedom to operate at its peak potential.

  1. Update Your Arsenal

Firmware updates and patches are your secret weapons against lag. Regularly update your graphics drivers, game software, and operating system. These updates thwart vulnerabilities and introduce optimizations that keep lag at bay.

  1. Plan for Prime Time: Understanding Internet Traffic Patterns

Internet traffic patterns vary throughout the day. During peak internet hours, which typically occur in the evenings, more users are active online, potentially leading to increased network congestion. While peak hours can impact lag, the extent varies based on your internet service provider, location, and the specific games you play. To minimize potential lag during peak hours, consider gaming during off-peak times when internet usage is lower.

  1. Gaming Etiquette for Seamless Fun

Remember, you’re part of a global gaming community. Uphold the spirit of camaraderie, respect, and sportsmanship. Be the player who elevates the experience for everyone on the virtual battlefield.

  1. Celebrate Your Victory

What speeds can I expect from my Wi-Fi connection?

When you choose our blazing-fast 1 Gbps internet plan, you’re unlocking a world of incredible speed potential for your online activities. With a wired connection, you’ll be able to enjoy the full 1 Gbps speed directly from our network. This means seamless streaming, lightning-fast downloads, and smooth online gaming experiences.

However, it’s important to understand that when you use Wi-Fi, the actual speed you experience can be influenced by a few factors. The Wi-Fi standard your router and devices support plays a role; the latest standards can achieve higher speeds. Additionally, factors like the number of devices connected, interference from other devices or networks, distance from the router, and even the quality of your router can impact your Wi-Fi speed.

While you might not consistently reach the full 1 Gbps over Wi-Fi due to these factors, you can still expect significantly high speeds—potentially in the hundreds of Mbps or more—when close to the router and with minimal interference. For activities requiring the highest performance, like competitive gaming or large downloads, consider connecting your device directly to the router using an Ethernet cable.

Rest assured, our goal is to provide you with the best possible experience, and we’re here to help you optimize your Wi-Fi setup for the fastest speeds available in your environment.

What’s the difference between a 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz network?

2.4 GHz and 5 GHz are two different frequency bands used for wireless communication in Wi-Fi networks. Each of these frequency bands has its own advantages and disadvantages, affecting factors like range, speed, and interference. Here’s a breakdown of the key differences between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks:

2.4 GHz Network:

Range: 2.4 GHz signals have a longer range compared to 5 GHz signals. This means they can penetrate walls and other obstacles more effectively, making them suitable for larger spaces or areas with many obstacles.

Interference: The 2.4 GHz frequency band is more crowded because many devices, such as cordless phones, microwaves, and Bluetooth devices, also operate on this band. This can lead to more interference and slower speeds in environments with many competing devices.

Speed: 2.4 GHz networks generally offer slower maximum speeds compared to 5 GHz networks due to the higher interference levels and the narrower channel width available.

Channel Overlap: There are fewer non-overlapping channels in the 2.4 GHz band, which can contribute to interference issues when multiple networks are in close proximity.

5 GHz Network:

Speed: 5 GHz networks offer higher maximum speeds compared to 2.4 GHz networks. This is because the 5 GHz band has wider channel widths available for data transmission.

Interference: The 5 GHz band is less crowded, as it has fewer devices using it compared to the 2.4 GHz band. This can lead to less interference and more consistent speeds, especially in areas with a high density of devices.

Range: 5 GHz signals have a shorter range and are more affected by obstacles like walls. This makes them more suitable for smaller spaces and areas with fewer obstacles.

Channel Availability: The 5 GHz band has more available non-overlapping channels, which can help reduce interference and provide better performance in environments with multiple networks.

In summary, the choice between a 2.4 GHz and a 5 GHz network depends on your specific needs and the environment in which you’re setting up the network:

Choose 2.4 GHz: If you need a network with longer range and better penetration through obstacles, and if you’re in an area with a lot of wireless interference from other devices.

Choose 5 GHz: If you prioritize higher speeds, have fewer devices in the area operating on the same band, and can accommodate the shorter range and reduced obstacle-penetration capabilities.

Many modern routers are dual-band, meaning they can operate on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies, allowing you to choose the appropriate band based on your needs and the devices you’re using.

What’s the difference between 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps?

The difference between 100 Mbps (Megabits per second) and 1 Gbps (Gigabit per second) lies in their data transmission speeds. These terms are commonly used to describe the speed of internet connections or data transfer rates in computer networks. Here’s a breakdown of the key differences:

  • Data Transfer Rate:
    • 100 Mbps (Megabits per second) refers to a speed of 100 million bits of data transmitted in one second.
    • 1 Gbps (Gigabit per second) refers to a speed of 1 billion bits of data transmitted in one second.
  • Speed Comparison:
    • 1 Gbps is 10 times faster than 100 Mbps.
    • This means that with a 1 Gbps connection, you can transfer data 10 times more quickly than with a 100 Mbps connection.
  • Real-world Applications:
    • A 100 Mbps connection is suitable for basic internet usage, such as web browsing, emailing, streaming SD (Standard Definition) videos, and light online gaming.
    • A 1 Gbps connection provides a significantly faster experience and is better suited for demanding tasks like HD (High Definition) and 4K video streaming, online gaming, video conferencing, large file downloads/uploads, and multiple devices using the internet simultaneously without experiencing slowdowns.
  • Download and Upload Speeds:
    • Both 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps connections offer high-speed downloads and uploads, but the difference in upload speed might not be as noticeable for regular internet users.

In summary, a 1 Gbps connection offers significantly faster speeds, making it more suitable for bandwidth-intensive activities and scenarios where multiple devices need to be connected simultaneously. However, the choice between these two speeds also depends on your specific needs, the number of devices in use, and the applications you regularly engage in.

Top 6 Tips to Improve Internet Speed and Performance

Internet is imperative for working these days, but sometimes your reliable connection will cut out with no warning. Other times, dead zones in your home make checking your email or receiving a simple phone call almost impossible. If you’ve been trying to mitigate these problems, here are the top seven tips to improve internet speed and reliability

    Relocating Your Router

Sometimes the simplest tricks will yield the best results. Since modems provide needed internet to your electronics, adjusting how their signal is sent out could bolster speed and accuracy.

The first trick is to take your router off the ground. Putting your modem somewhere elevated can help the signal travel without being blocked by furniture or other obstructions. Place the router on top of a shelf or table for best, unhampered usage.

Routers can also be obstructed by materials and substances such as metal, tile, and water. Even having something like a fish tank could hinder the efficacy of a router’s signal. Be mindful about where you place your router regarding these materials for better, faster internet.

    Buying an Extender

If you live in a one-floor apartment, there aren’t many obstacles for a modem to overcome. A router’s signal becomes exponentially weaker once you add multiple levels to the equation. For those living in homes or wider spaces with numerous rooms, buying a WiFi extender will fix this problem easily.

An extender for your router is a relatively cheap solution for a dampened signal. Plug in the device in one of your home’s dead zones or on a different story than your modem. The extender will multiply and redistribute internet frequencies into the space, strengthening an internet connection for hard-to-reach devices.

    Disconnect Certain Devices

Every computer, iPad, gaming system, and phone in your home may be connected to your WiFi simultaneously. Though we live in a golden age of technology, an average modem can only connect to so many devices before its speed is inhibited. Before upgrading your internet or buying a new modem, try disconnecting devices you don’t use regularly. Though this may seem simplistic, freeing up your modem’s connectivity could greatly increase its efficacy.

    Angle Your Router Antennas

Many routers on the market will come equipped with two separate antennas. Like an old television set, angling antennas could help improve a device’s accuracy.

As stated above, dense materials and piping in the home can easily dampen an internet signal. Push one of your modem’s antennas directly upward and the other horizontally to better expedite its frequencies through furniture and walls. Ensuring that the modem’s signal covers all areas of an apartment and can travel through floors easily will improve your devices’ connections drastically.

    Changing WiFi Frequency

For those who aren’t tech enthusiasts or part of the Geek Squad, one’s WiFi and various frequencies aren’t common knowledge. If you didn’t know, a basic modem has two different channels for speed, usually 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Routers instantaneously pick the optimal channel for your device, but that won’t necessarily yield the best results.

If you’re still having trouble with WiFi speed, try manually connecting to the second GHz frequency. Alternating the connection might be your solution if many devices are plugged into one channel.

To switch your WiFi frequency, you must access and log in to your router. You can log in through a web address or an app, depending on your router. Modems from NETGEAR will have an address provided, while Google’s modems have an app that’ll help you switch your WiFi channels.

    Finding a Replacement Router

Replacing equipment is the absolute final and last resort step while having bandwidth issues. If none of the steps above have helped improve internet speed, contacting your provider to switch your router could be the necessary solution.

Improving internet connection doesn’t have to be an impossible feat. Luckily, there are plenty of troubleshooting ideas to help your modem out. Try any of these six tips if you’re becoming too frustrated with your WiFi’s speed and inefficiency.

Google Tasks is easily accessible by the sidebar of Google Calendar. Once opening the tab, you’ll be able to assign due dates, sub-tasks, or additional comments to your calendar inputs.

Google Tasks is a no-brainer for a to-do list manager if you’re always on Gmail or using Google Spreadsheets.

    Sunsama

Time blocking is a management tactic for people who need guidance in using their hours constructively. Sunsama is an intuitive application that specializes in creating the perfect time-blocking plan.

In the main frame, you’ll be able to list your tasks by day. You’ll find a calendar in the app’s sidebar, where you can drag and drop your assignments to their respective dates. Upon opening the app, it’ll ask you what tasks you need to finish for the day and how long you expect them to take. With a few clicks of the keyboard, you’ll be able to construct your day perfectly.

After 14 free days, Sunsama’s package starts at $20 per month.

    HourStack

HourStack is another great time-blocking app with a slightly different layout than Sunsama. Primarily if you operate as part of a team, this app is perfect for adding multiple users to accomplish your occupational to-do list quickly.

Like other time management sites, you’ll start by constructing your week or day with tasks and how many hours or minutes you need to spend on them. You can then start the timer by clicking the “Start” button on a specific task, with no need to set up a separate deadline feature. A “Report” feature included in the app tracks your metrics, like how long you’ve been taking to complete each assignment.

There are numerous management and goal-oriented applications on the market today. Finding the right one depends on your work structure, procrastination level, and focus. These six apps are a great place to start for tracking your New Year’s resolution journey and finding success in 2023.

Should I Be On Telegram & Discord? What Are The Benefits of Smaller Social Networks

In this day and age, there are many different avenues to chat virtually with people. Before the age of smartphones, online forums with specific niches attracted users worldwide to connect over similar interests. Today, messaging forums can be downloaded instantaneously, ensuring everyone can talk, share, and connect.

Over the past several years, two applications have gained popularity for their specific usage: Telegram and Discord. Both apps originated as easy instant messengers intending to get more people connected worldwide. Though Telegram and Discord serve almost identical functions, they have a few key distinctions.

    What is Discord?

Though Discord is used as a general messaging apps, its origins were based on connecting gamers. Jason Citron founded the app, who had already started a messaging forum for gamers called OpenFeint in 2009. After selling his company in 2011, he decided to focus on a new app that would continue focusing on the gaming community.

At its core, Discord is an instant messaging user platform that people use for a myriad of social purposes. People with the app can text message, video call, voice call, and share media and files through private chats or group forums. Discord uses something called servers to facilitate chatting. These are designated chatrooms that multiple people can join through an invitation link.

Though Discord can be used for frivolous, social communication, it’s the premier messaging app for gamers, especially PC gamers. On the app, different servers are easily identifiable through a search function. These servers host group chats discussing different games and studios and offer a safe place for fans to discuss strategy and create relationships with like-minded folks.

Other popular Discord servers discuss topics like cryptocurrency, motivational skills, anime, and memes. Users are allowed to create servers without any qualifications, so if there isn’t a group based on an interest you’d like to discuss, you can make one promptly.

    What Makes Discord Different?

Discord acts similarly to other free communication services, but it has some beneficial distinctions. The app is incredibly versatile, with a wide variety of chat options for users to choose from. Discord also has high-functioning voice chat availability, so gamers can chat on the application while still playing their program.

Another factor of Discord’s popularity is its public and private servers. Creators can limit who can see certain servers, ensuring that people’s identities or conversations remain private. Within the groups, creators can assign people different roles with responsibilities like moderators or administrators. The app gives the users plenty of control to help them create the best servers for their interests.

    What is Telegram?

Though Discord is more widely known, Telegram is another free messaging app used more commonly outside the United States. Russian entrepreneur Pavel Durov created it to give privacy to users needing to discuss personal matters virtually. The app has over 550 million users worldwide, and its usership often increases when other messaging forums get caught up in privacy scandals.

At its core, Telegram works similarly to Discord and other communication apps. The app hosts group forums, private chats, video calling, and file-sharing functions. The key difference between Telegram and apps like Discord is that the former emphasizes its ability to secure user privacy.

What Are The Benefits of Downloading Telegram?

For those who need messaging apps with an emphasis on privacy, Telegram is the go-to software. The company uses end-to-end encryption in order to protect users when they’re communicating with each other. This practice stops outside agents like hackers from seeing what is being said in a private conversation.

But for those who think Telegram is the most confidential social platform, there is one caveat. The app does not encrypt conversations in public chats; it only encrypts calls and its “secret chat” function. Conversations that aren’t encoded are saved to a cloud, meaning these messages and files are easily accessible from multiple devices.

Both Telegram and Discord are excellent vehicles for connectedness, sharing, and transnational communication. For privacy concerns, people may want to explore Telegram for safer messaging, but Discord also provides a private environment for exclusively chatting, too.

Alongside physical devices, AI technology has been utilized for websites, software, and applications. Here are some of the coolest, innovative apps and websites that use automated tech.

    Craiyon

Craiyon, formally known as Dall-e Mini, is one of the most well-known AI-powered websites on the internet. When it was first released, it took social media platforms by storm, issuing the start of this year’s artificial technology takeover.

Craiyon is a basic AI image generator. A user can type in whatever comes to mind into the search function, and new images will appear in seconds. These images are AI depictions of the user text responses, utilizing high-grade Google TRC tech. Though the pictures created aren’t always perfect, Craiyon showcases what AI technology can produce and the potential for these services to grow.

    ELSA Speak

Language-learning software has been advancing since its creation. From Rosetta Stone to Duolingo, there have been tremendous upgrades in learning languages more efficiently. Now, ELSA Speak provides an AI-supported experience to further users’ multilingualism.

The app uses an artificial speaking coach to guide the user through various lessons. With the help of voice recognition technology, the application will be able to analyze your accent and see how well your pronunciation is. Elsa SPEAKS uses an innovative color-coded system of red, yellow, and green to show the speaker how close their pronounced words are to the correct version. ELSA Speak only offers English lessons currently but will hopefully expand its roster in the future.

    Hopper

AI is being implemented in various industries to provide better customer support. Hopper focuses on the travel industry to estimate accurate hotel and flight costs ahead of time.

Using artificial technology, Hopper can predict hotel and airline prices up to a year before a person’s trip. The app takes a user’s flight information and releases relevant content about travel flares, the time when costs could fluctuate during the year, and more economical flight dates. The predictive analysis that Hopper uses is unlike any travel sight, having the ability to anticipate travel cost inflation years in advance.

    Socratic

It’s about time that AI started being used in the educational sector. Socratic is a new education app that uses artificial services to help kids with homework.

Socratic is like having a personal, robot tutor for any kid struggling with their classes. With the app, kids can take photos of their homework and upload them to the app. Then, Socratic will generate concepts, tools, and examples of the assignment to aid the child in finding the answers. The app uses text and speech recognition to provide comprehensive help in science, math, history, geography, and more.

    Thing Translator

AI’s most useful nature in modern society is its ability to recognize and interpret images. With Thing Translator, this website can take a photo of an object, process the image, and provide the user with the object’s name in various languages.

With Thing Translator, understanding different languages is easier than ever. Especially if you’re in a foreign country and need a quick translation, this website can take any object in your vicinity, identify the object present, and provide you with the correct linguistic interpretation.

Thing Translator is a Google-powered experiment and works on computers and smartphones. The website can’t translate every language yet, but the most popular worldwide languages are available.

AI is being employed in more websites and apps than people genuinely realize. With text and speech recognition in such an advanced position, companies are increasingly investing in this technology for better fast-paced, predictive services.
