How to Reboot Your Internet Router

Rebooting your internet router is a simple troubleshooting step that can resolve many common connectivity issues, such as slow speeds or dropped connections.

Steps to Reboot Your Router

  1. Unplug your router from the power source
    1. Locate the power cable connected to your router and unplug it from the wall outlet or power strip.
  2. Wait 30–60 seconds
    1. This pause allows the router to fully power down and clear temporary memory.
  3. Plug the router back in
    1. Reconnect the power cable and wait for the router to fully restart.
    2. This may take 1–3 minutes. Lights may blink during startup.
  4. Test your internet connection
    1. Once the router has finished rebooting, check your internet connection on your device.
